Safe water and sanitation

Buremba Community Initiative constructed an underground tank for pupils at Buremba Junior School, that provides tapped water. This has greatly improved the health of the children and also reduced the time that was spent fetching water from wells and the borehole.

Water and sanitation are essential for life and health, Water and sanitation are human rights, fundamentals to every child and adult.

BCI aims to increase access to safe drinking water, improve sanitation and hygiene practices in schools and homesteads in Kazo District.

The water supplies for most of the Sub counties in Kazo district are ponds/dams downhills in a distance of several kilometers. The ponds are completely unprotected and hygienically extremely insufficient. From there people carry the water for drinking, cooking and yet the cattle feed on the same.

BCI is working to provide an improved supply of clean drinking water for the local people by constructing at least one protected boreholes in each of the Sub counties of Kazo while implementing hygiene measures to reduce the spread of sickness and provide support for school going children – who often suffer severe disadvantages, for example missing out on school, because of poor sanitation.
